ZEBEC Beats IKE
It's
early Monday morning following Hurricane IKE's Saturday fury - What kind of customer
emails do you think the president of a Houston based IT managed services company
is reading? If you're John
Feltham, president and CEO of ZEBEC, it was 30+ "Thank
You's" and "At-A-Boy's" from his worldwide client base.
ZEBEC is a leading provider of managed hosting, collocation and IT outsourcing services
with high level security. They service several thousands of accounts worldwide in
multiple vertical industries, including Oil &Gas, Health Care, Capital Marketing
and Banking. ZEBEC clients experienced completely UN-INTERRUPTED service throughout
the storm and its aftermath. They had COMPLETE access to all their corporate data
from wherever there was power and an internet connection. ZEBEC stationed "Ride
Out" and "After Storm" teams in "round the clock" mode at their west Houston Data
Center. Each of these teams has distinct skill sets and provided constant "live"
contact for any client throughout the hurricane and during its immediate and long
term aftermath.
This included a Houston based client whose IT department went down just before the
storm and before they could process the company's 2,700 employee payroll. Through
ZEBEC's "real time" backup, the company processed these transactions in mere hours
after the storm passed. That's real life Business Continuance.
At the height of the hurricane's fury, an out of state acute care hospital was able
to process its routine weekend maintenance functions right on schedule. How's that
for "Business as usual"? If you're using your own diesel generated power to stay
online consistently, at some point your tanks need topping off. When your prime
supplier is unable to service you because of hurricane debris between their facility and yours, you simply call your second contracted suppliers to fill your tanks..
This happened on Monday afternoon, just two days after the storm and long before
all but a few suppliers were back in service. That's called, "Advanced and Redundant
Planning."
Finally, on Wednesday morning, when nearly 60% of Houston and surrounding areas
were still without power, a major Houston based international energy publisher contacted
ZEBEC. They had already called three ZEBEC competitors and received a no answer,
a ridiculous price and a minimum activation date of two weeks. Working with ZEBEC
personnel by fax, since the publication had no internet, contracts were negotiated
and signed by mid afternoon. The publisher had their critical services online by
6 pm. This was all accomplished by ZEBEC's dedicated team of customer service professionals.
It was also done in fewer HOURS than the competition had quoted DAYS to get them
service.
